Polycauliona candelaria s.l (Xanthoria candelaria s.l) Growth type foliose Chemical results: K+ red Found on the top of nutrient-rich fence posts and gravestones, also on bark, walls, rocks and occasionally twigs. Compact, ascending, small yellowish-orange lobes, rhizines usually absent. Marginal finely-granular soralia (blastidia) extends to under surface of lobes. Apothecia are occasional on lobe tips, margins contorted. Asci 8-spored, spores 11.5-14.5 x 4.5-6.5 µm. Micro photo below. Similar: Candelaria concolor is K-, X. polycarpa has wider spores |
