Cladonia ciliata

Chemical results: K-, KC-, P+ red, UV-
Can form large patches among heather stems on heathlands and bogs and amongst scree

Primary squamules are absent. Podetia are pale ashy-grey to green-grey with brownish-purple tips turned down at ends and the tips more/less orientated in one direction. Branching is mainly in two's (dichotomous) with the axils rarely perforated. Very variable, with two recognised varieties:

Similar: Cladonia portentosa, the branching is +/- trichotomous, P-. Cladonia arbuscula, main branches strongly curved, P+ yellow
