Cladonia ciliata Chemical results: K-, KC-, P+ red, UV- Can form large patches among heather stems on heathlands and bogs and amongst scree Primary squamules are absent. Podetia are pale ashy-grey to green-grey with brownish-purple tips turned down at ends and the tips more/less orientated in one direction. Branching is mainly in two's (dichotomous) with the axils rarely perforated. Very variable, two varieties are recognised, var. tenuis and the less frequent var. ciliata (bottom photograph).
