Rare, usually found near coast on compacted soil and exposed north facing stones and walls. BLS conservation evaluation: LC NS Sc

Belongs to the O. calcarea group. The thin or thick chalky whitish thallus is frequently sterile with abundant black pycnidia. When fertile heaped lirellae with slit-like discs. Spores usually 3-5 septate, often with thin perispore.

Similar: Opegrapha mougeotii. Spores larger, 5-7 septate
