Pertusariaceae
Pertusaria pertusa Growth type crustose.Chemical results: K+ yellow, C-, KC+ yellow, P+ deep orange, UV+/- orange. Very common on tree bark, occasional on rocks, walls and memorials. A conspicuous zoned margin surrounds the thick, slightly cracked greenish-grey thallus. Wart-like protuberances produce 3-7 apothecia with discs like tiny black pits. Asci usually 2-spored, spores 150-250 x 40-80 µm. Micrographs below. Sometimes host to Sphinctrina turbinata Similar: Pertusaria hymenea, K-, C+ yellow, discs +/- open and the asci are 8-spored. P. leioplaca, K+ yellow, C-, KC+ yellow, P +/- orange-red but asci (3-)4(-6) spored and contain smaller spores |
