Wingspan: 8mm. First UK record was in SW London in 2002 Flight time: Probably three generations Food plant: Horse-chestnut (Aesculus hippocastanum). Also Acer spp. Mine: May-October The egg is laid on the upperside, usually near a vein. A small corridor leads to a large, elongate, upperside blotch, usually between veins. Blotch is cinnamon-coloured with a dark centre and many mines can occur on each leaf, causing serious defoliation. N.B. The fungus Guignardia aesculi is very similar and can cause confusion |
