Identification by Neil Sanderson confirmed by Jan Vondrák. First described in 2011 by Jaroslav Soun, Oleksandr Khodosovtsev and Jan Vondrák.

In southern Europe it is found on the basal parts of woody plant stems, plant debris and dead wood in steppe and coastal sand dune habitats.

Scattered thin, greyish-green thallus, forming areoles or squamules to 2-3cm wide, often pruinose. Greenish or greenish-grey soralia develop on the areole margins, and the thalli can form continuous sorediate crusts. Often found sterile as apothecia are rare (0.2-0.6 mm diameter), the discs orange or yellowish-orange. Pycnidia are immersed and inconspicuous.
