Zwackhiomyces lithoiceae # Lichenicolous fungus. Photographs on Placopyrenium fuscellum. Rare on the thallus of Placopyrenium fuscellum (was Verrucaria fuscella). Numerous scattered black, globose to pyriform, sessile perithecia. The asci are (2-)4-6(-8) spored, spores 15-20 x 5-7.5 ΅m, hyaline, 1-septate and slightly constricted at the septa. Periphyses absent but branched and anastomosed interascal filaments are abundant. Micrographs below. Similar: Zwackhiomyces lecanorae is parasitic on Lecanora albescens |
