Squamarina cartilaginea Growth type squamulose Two chemotypes: morphs with P+ yellow medulla appear confined to coastal sites, morphs with P- medulla also occur inland. Usually coastal on soil, moss and hard calcareous rocks, in crevices on limestone pavements and cliffs and among calcareous dunes Yellowish-green or pale greenish-brown thallus of thick, irregularly-shaped squamules, sometimes very pruinose. Apothecia 3-4 mm diam, thick margins becoming excluded, discs pale brown to red-brown. Asci are 8-spored, the spores simple, (10-)12-14(-15) x (4-)4.5-6 µm. |
