Leproplaca cirrochroa (Caloplaca cirrochroa) Growth type placodioid Chemical results: K+ crimson Local but can sometimes be abundant on warm, sheltered hard calcareous rocks. Also found on vertical limestone church memorials. Thallus composed of an areolate centre surrounded by long, narrow, radiating lobes, the lobes yellow-orange to bright orange and sometimes with pruinose tips. Rarely fertile but the lobes become dotted with very distinctive bright lemon-yellow convex soralia. |
