South and west British Isles, scattered records for Ireland. Near Threatened species, declining due to agricultural intensification Dense, shrubby, +/- erect thallus, the base persistently blackened. Main stems have minute papillae and numerous fibrils. Usually very fertile, large apothecia surrounded by ray-like projections. Soredia and isidia absent. Can be confused with fertile Usnea subfloridana |
