Usnea wasmuthii Growth type fruticose Chemical reactions are variable, either medulla K-, P- or K+ yellow-orange to red, P+ yellow after 1 minute. Local distribution on deciduous trees, mainly N and W Britain and Ireland. Very similar to Usnea subfloridana but soralia more oval and isidiomorphs +/- restricted to main branches. Base blackened but with a different cracking-pattern. Apothecia absent. Easily confused with U. subfloridana, medulla K+ yellow, P+ yellow-orange instantly |
