Lichina pygmaea Growth type fruticoseChemical results negative. Occurs on coastal siliceous rocks below the high water mark. Black or dark-brown thallus, the branches +/- flattened with apothecia at tips. Some branches can be yellowish-brown. Forms extensive mats to 1cm high. The apothecia are blackish and spherical, asci 8-spored, the spores simple, hyaline, 22-29 x 11-16 µm. Similar: L. confinis is smaller (to 5mm high) and found above HWM. |
