Xanthocarpia fulva (Xanthocarpia marmorata, Caloplaca marmorata) Growth type crustose Chemical results: Thallus K-, apothecia K+ red Pioneer species on limestone, soft chalk and sea shells Inconspicuous or thin white thallus. The small, dispersed, bright orange-yellow apothecia have prominent margins and become translucent when wet. Spores 11-14 x 6-8.5, the septum narrow, less than 1/8 length. Could be confused with Xanthocarpia crenulatella (spores with narrow septum but yellowish thallus) and Caloplaca holocarpa agg. |
