Growth type crustose
Chemical results: Thallus: K-, C+ red, KC+ red, P-, UV+ whitish

Common, widespread on old fences, wooden posts, railings and garden furniture and tree stumps. Also recorded from acid bark and siliceous rock.

Can be variable with green or greenish-grey, whitish or dark bluish-grey flattened and granular areoles. The greyish-green to dark bluish-green soredia can spread to cover thallus. Apothecia infrequent, discs green-grey to green-black, pinkish in deep shade. Spores simple, 7-9.5 x 2.5-4 µm

Similar: T. granulosa has larger spores, 9-14 x 4-6 µm. Trapelia obtegens has green soredia
